Infusing a town map with 400 years of history.
Challenge
Town managers engaged LVCK to elevate the image of the town through a new and striking map that would create a deeper sense of place, and attract visitors and residents alike to this walkable downtown.
Results
LVCK sees maps as giving visitors and residents an overview and deeper appreciation of a place. Maps identify destinations, show pathways between, and provide orientation.
We designed the new map so that people can easily situate themselves, discover things, and feel empowered to explore – some distances between destinations are revealed as closer than one thought. The map has been embraced in part because it elevates the town’s beauty, architecture, and history while providing a platform for bringing to light the enriching destinations, and their interconnectedness.
Finally, we have proposed situating the map as the foundation of an overall Wayfinding plan for the town.
