Eastlink Trail
Wayfinding for Austin’s new 5.1 mile urban trail.
Challenge
The Eastlink Trail travels over 5.1 miles through diverse neighborhoods in East Central Austin. With many other trails in this environmentally-conscious city, wayfinding could be used to distinguish this trail from the other and guide pedestrians and cyclists on their way.
Approach
While the trail’s Master Plan already included wayfinding design concepts, LVCK had to take the schematic design all the way through to construction. We needed to make sure that the designs would work with the wide-ranging surroundings – parks, streetscapes, commuter rail, a private golf course, and even next to a highway. LVCK designed for users at different speeds (walking vs. biking) and to meet ADA compliance standards.
We vetted the proposed designs multiple times with the community, our client the Parks Foundation, the Parks Department and the Austin Transportation Department over the eight months of this project.
